NYE 2009 Sydney!

Although the group is going to be a small pack of 3, I have a feeling its going to be just amazing! I am ready to bring out my trusty Canon Eos 1000D and shoot away! Also it is going to be my first NYE away from Singapore! I have to make the most of it. We were in a dilema initially, trying to figure out which is the best option to choose. It will be the first time for all three of us, and alot of people recok we should have a plan that includes the fire works display from the Sydney Harbour Bridge. However if that is on the itinerary, we have to sort of stay out as it is going to be a pain travelling across the bridge. There is pretty much only one way in and out of North Sydney if you are heading to and from the city, which is the Harbour Bridge. And traffic will cease roads will be closed the only way to go would be to catch the public transport, ie: trains, buses or ferries.

There are a total of 53 vantage points in which we can nestle to watch the display, my friends and I are thinking of settling for "Blue Point Reserve" or maybe even at my office as the view is just amazing! At Blues Point Reserve we are looking at squeezing with about 11997 people as the capacity can take up to 12000, however no BYO alcohol is allowed. The office would be a good choice, where you get good view, space but everything has to be BYO.

So more about the fire works, there seems to be a theme every year, this year the team is "Awaken the Spirit", apparantly people are encouraged to dress in blue! here are some pictures of last years display.

Sydney Siders seem to be excited! Well I am too! Happy 2010 People! I hope you would have something special planned as well, if not quick! You have only about 24 hours more to come up with something!

Put Them in a Tea Cup!

These Tea Cup Pigs are amazingly cute! Don't you just want one of these cute little adorable piggys! I know i want one! Apparantly they have become like a fashion statement in England, a lot of Celebrities have them as pets and acessories and the trend is growing. The prices range from $1100 - $1700 depending on where you get them. It seems there are not many breeders around, so when the demand is high and the supply is low the cost goes sky rocking high!

Teacup pigs are also known as mini, micro and teacup potbelly pigs. They are said to grow to maximum 30 to 50 lbs compared to potbelly pig which close 150 to 500 lbs. Their height is about the height of a cocker spaniel dog. These pigs can live a lifespan of 15 to 20 years old. There care and maintenance is the same as a dog. These pigs lend themselves to apartment living and city life. They do need walks on leash and are litter box trained in matter of days. These teacup pigs are very intelligent and affectionate. Farmers that raise these pigs boast their intelligence rivals that of dogs.

Happy Christmas Eve everyone!

I am so bored, the office is like a ghost town.. almost everyone has left work. I think i'll leave soon as well. Was doing absolutely nothing at work.. it was such a breeze! I took some pictures and mugged around with viv. Oh! we bought some christmasy earrings earlier this morning, they are so cute! here check them out..

I absolutely love the view from our office.. its so breath taking! Don't you agree??! When I am having a bad day at work, i just look up and i feel so much better. anyway hope you like the pictures.. Hugs and kisses you guys! Have a Happy happy xmas! Eat more and be Merry!

the freight arrived

I have been waiting patiently for my freight to arrive, finally it came this morning. Fortunately i have very good friends who took the trouble to help me receive it! You see, most people here do not work on weekends, especially laborious jobs. If they do, it would be like winning the golden ticket or the lotto!

My house is in a mess! I do not know where to start! I can't believe I have to leave my house in this state till after Christmas day! I would be taking the train up to Epping, to my step auntie and step grandma's place to spend Eve and Christmas with them. I have never spent Christmas without my group of friends nor have I spent it away from Singapore. Even when I was in uni, come Christmas time, I would fly back and spend it with friends and family going clubbing, catching the fireworks display, counting down and getting dead drunk. Well i guess it would be a different experience this year to have a more down to earth, homely celebration.

Honestly, I still don't feel the Christmas spirit, it doesn't feel like the holidays at all! Maybe I am just missing the vibrant Orchard Rd light up, maybe it is because I do not have any Christmas decorations at home. The Christmas decorations here are... hmm lets just say, not very exciting.. even the shopping centres are boring. Its not like when you go to Takashimaya and the open square has an array of Christmas ornaments for sale! With more than 50 trees decorated as samples. Here they are big on Cooking at home and exchanging presents! Big Feast with huge turkey, wines, salads, Christmas pudding or cake. Speaking of presents, I struggled with that a little, I have lost the touch of buying things for people. I normally shop for the things I like and I couldn't care less about the things I wouldn't really want to receive. I like things that are practical, that i can use, wear, carry. I don't really like things that sits on my shelf or table tops, because I am very particular about what i display and I always feel bad when someone buys me a Crystal display item and I hate it. I feel mean and unappreciative, but yet I can't help feeling yucky about the clash of artifacts. Ok I better get going, I need to wrap present!

Merry Christmas!

XOXO

Merry Xmas DT - We Miss you

you will always be remembered

Missy J's first entry

Wow.. finally i'm doing this! I've been thinking about blogging again since mid this year but work and life was really hectic then. A normal weekday or work day for me in Singapore goes something like this:
Wake up in the morning at around 8.45-9am rush to get ready for work, leave the house in a rush, try to get to work by 9.30, nah.. never happens! At work.. its just go go go and no stopping till the clock strikes 18:00 hours, which is officially end of the work day. Our brain shuts at 18:00 hours but our bodies are still stuck in that office chair, why not leave you say? You would think "official end time" means pack your bags and head off, think again. At 18:00 hours, people are still talking about release schedules, marketing plans, budget reports, purchase orders nobody wants to go home yet! No actually, let me rephrase, everyone wants to go home, they just can't, because the boss is still around, managers are still on the phones, directors are still at their computers shooting the 20th last email. So everyone sticks around sort of for show, waiting for the first person to openly leave first. If anyone were to leave at 6 on the dot, they would pack quietly, only switch off their monitors and not shut down the computer to avoid the "shut down" ringer.

You would probably be saying, what bullshit is this, if you end work at 6pm you go home at 6 sharp! Thats not really the case in clean and green city! People tend to work OT (over time) alot in this little city. You know why we don't want to leave on the dot? That is because, some people in the office will make comments like "she doesn't have any work to do, She is so lucky she can leave early". I know what you are thinking, what early? She is not leaving early, early is when you end at 6pm and you leave at 5pm.

Ok, get back to the Singaporean workday lifestyle. So finally about 1 hour of hanging around in the office, normally 7 is the "safe time" to leave. By then some of my friends would have been waiting for an hour and some, like me cursing and swearing at the 1 hour wasted. A bunch of us would normally meet for dinner and coffee, sometimes we even go for Karaoke till 1nish or 2ish. Then i'll rush home, shower and get ready for bed.. and the whole cycle starts the next day.

With a schedule like that, it not surprising that we sometimes don't really have the chance to sit down relax and do the things we really want to do. In other words we seldom have "me time".

Well this hectic lifestyle is currently on hiatus, I have recently moved to a city where the pace may seem as fast as Singapore, however the culture here is still "take it easy mate". Sydney is a bustling city with people from all walks of life, about half of the city is some ethnic town. So far the best thing about moving to Sydney is that I can have a lot of "me time". Sometimes it can get alittle too boring, but nothing unbearable.

So.. i'll be bringing you on a journey.. a look inside my big move to Sydney and many many other exciting things that i'll be learning along the way.

Anyway, thank you and Adios for now.. Missy J has to head to bed, you can't miss trains here or you are fucked!

XOXO
